2008
Keith Harris and Orville the duck came to Mablethorpe for the resort’s famous illuminations switch-on evening. The cheeky pair rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with BBC’s the Keith Harris Show, which was followed by Orville’s chart hit “I Wish I Could Fly” which gave them international stardom. Keith and Orville have attended five Royal Command Performances and were honoured to perform for Prince William’s 3rd birthday party at Highgrove and Prince Harry’s 3rd birthday at Kensington Palace.
2007
A big crowd gathered to enjoy entertainment and see the switch on for both the Mablethorpe illuminations and the Star of the East. Coronation Street actress Tupele Dorgu was the guest for the evening and spoke to the crowds before performing a song. Tupele said: "
I'd never heard of Mablethorpe until now but from what I have seen there is a real sense of community here. The children I've met are fantastic and I am amazed at the amount of people who turned out tonight." On seeing the Mablethorpe beach, Tupele said to the crowds: "
I don't live anywhere near a beach – you are all very lucky."
